Death of a Princess

Somewhere
between L.A. and Seattle,
in separate
cars,
following
mother and father
home for holiday,
we paused
our summer evening drive, gas pump
weighty
in hand after reports the Princess
had died, gasped her last
kindhearted
breath, smashed
amidst twisted,
cold
metal, world
lost
at the loss.

This poem was written from a prompt at Poetic Bloomings.
